w124 230E Restoration
Another w124 is being brought back to life. I must say I really do like these cars.
This particular car had been standing for over 7 years in someones garage and that too half of the car was in the sunlight while the front half was in the shade. This had a really bad effect as the paint faded and the seats also lost their color. First thing I had the car repainted where it had the flaked paint. The car is in great condition. Mechanically very sound and everything is in its original condition. It has only done 122000 kms from new. The autobox still shifts beautifully and almost all electrics works. A couple of power windows have jammed but I’m sure a bit of greasing will get them working as they should. This is how the car looks as of today.
Notice that I had the grill painted mat black and the black bumper inserts have been color coded. I quite like it now.
The interior will be upgraded to the newer style with the wooden dash and the wood panelled doors cards. I may even try to find the original leather electric seats. Lets see. Will keep on posting any updates here.
The car has since been lowered by replacing the spring pads by number 1 pads instead of the number 3 pads that were on the car. The slight vibration at 60kph was diagnosed to be an out of balance drive shart which has been replaced.
The power windows had jammed up so all the door cards were taken off and the window mechanism cleaned and greased. Should last another 10 years at least.
The car has since been tinted with 3M 30% tints and the alloys have been replaced by the w210 E class 16″ allows with brand new Yokohama tyres. Here is how it looks currently.
